Some Advice on Repair Station Manuals and Repair Station Certificate Applications

We are currently preparing a set of Repair Station Manuals for an aviation company that is in the process of applying for a Repair Station certificate in Texas.

The procedure for a new or existing Repair Station to meet the compliance requirements for certification under FAR Part 145 is to prepare a set of three manuals in a format that is acceptable to the FAA.

The Repair Station Manual, Quality Control Manual and Training Program Manual must contain all the quality standards and procedures to ensure the Repair Station maintains a continuing airworthiness program. The manuals must comply with and address all Federal Aviation Regulations for certificate holders operating or intending to operate under Part 145.

Prior to establishing Tech One, I set up a Repair Station conducting line maintenance at Washington Dulles Airport in 2004 and therefore familiar with the application process and requirements to be granted a Repair Station certificate. In addition this Repair Station also applied for and was granted an EASA 145 approval certificate.

There are some significant benefits in having these manuals prepared for you in a format that is acceptable to the FAA and that contain only the pertinent information required for a particular Repair Stations operation and rating. These are:

  1. A considerable amount of time is saved in the application process as getting the manuals approved by the FAA is the hardest task to be achieved.
  2. The manuals are tailored specifically to suit a Repair Stations unique operation and rating.
  3. The correct formatting of the manuals allows revisions to be made simpler and future development of the manual is made easier as the Repair Station expands.

Since starting this current manual preparation project another request has been received from a new FBO in Georgia!

I guess the word is getting round, this is the way to go!

Be safe out there.
